TEEN SUMMER CAMP 2023: We are thrilled to announce our 2023 VAMP Teen Summer Camp! This year we are offering 3 different classes which will run June 12-June 16. All 5 days will be taught by our very own Modern Effects Makeup Artistry instructors, Brian Mahoney and Osiris Rivera, both of whom are IATSE Local 798 Union Members and have spent over 10 years each as makeup artists at Universal Orlando Resort bringing characters at Halloween Horror Nights and Grinchmas to life. These classes may be taken separately, or as one continuous program. Students who book for all 5 days of the camp will receive a $150 discount* off the total program price, as space allows.
• INJURY MAKEUP, ($385)—The first class will be a one-day seminar dedicated to out-of-the-kit injury makeup. Students will learn the basics of applying and creating faux injuries such as cuts, scrapes, large lacerations, bruises, burns, and other realistic maladies. Everyone will receive a professional makeup kit including an alcohol palette, 2-part silicone, blood, brushes and more to complete the looks and to take home.
• FOAM LATEX PROSTHETIC MAKEUP, ($525)—The second class will be a one-day seminar dedicated to foam latex prosthetic appliances. Foam latex prosthetics are soft, light weight pieces that makeup artists use to create character makeups, injuries, or alter appearances. Unlike masks, they are glued directly to a performer’s skin and blended until the edges are seamless, creating a realistic and believable effect for movies, TV and live entertainment. Many memorable movie characters, such as The Grinch and Mrs. Doubtfire, were created with the use of foam latex prosthetics. In this class, students will learn the basics of applying foam latex prosthetics as well as realistic painting techniques to complete their creations. Students will receive a professional makeup kit including special prosthetic paints, an alcohol palette, fantasy/scifi themed foam latex prosthetics, adhesives, removers, brushes, and more to complete their looks and to take home.
• MASK MAKING, ($900)—The last class will be a three-day seminar on half-mask making. Students will sculpt and paint their own wearable latex half-mask! This year, our instructors will guide each student throughout the process as they create their own alien creature mask, which they will take home upon completion. Cost of the program includes all masking materials: clay, sculpting armature, sculpting tools, mold making compound, latex, and paint. Students will be able to take home their finished mask, armature, clay, and tools.
All of these programs are for individuals enrolled in middle school or high school for the 2023-2024 school year. Our summer session is very limited and is first-come-first-serve! If you have questions please email info@vampfx.com or call us at 407-601-2894.
*The total cost of the 3 programs before the discount is $1,810.00. With the $150 discount applied, the cost will be $1,660.00. Each class is first-come-first-serve and may be booked separately. Once any of the programs offered have reached capacity this offer will no longer be available.
**If you are interested in classes for your child outside of this age range, we request your patience as we plan and implement new programs. We are a small but dedicated team and are doing our best to serve all aspiring artists as time allows.
Only the teens enrolled in the classes will be allowed to participate. Parents may not be present inside the teaching rooms. Each class will be a hands-on self application of the material taught. Individuals with any form of latex allergy should not participate in the Foam Latex or Mask Making classes. Scholarships and discounts are not available for our Teen Summer Program classes.
The total cost of each class includes a kit to take home of professional makeup materials curated specially for the curriculum. A non-refundable retainer of $350 is required at the time of booking to reserve your seat and goes towards the total cost of the classes you select. Invoices for the tuition balance will be emailed to the email address provided during the application process, and may be paid online via ACH transfer or credit card no later than May 26, 2023. Guardians will also receive an email with minor release forms that must be returned prior to the first day of their first class in order to participate in the programs.
Each class will start at 9AM and end at 4PM and be held at our facilities at 5800 Hansel Ave Orlando, FL. There will be a scheduled lunch break 12-12:30 PM. Room and board will not be provided so be sure to make appropriate accommodations and pack a lunch as well as snacks if desired.
